The Back Room

Illustrations
by Karen Zethmayr

This harmony, using only three different pitches, can be learned during the first half of Book 1. The rhythm is "just like Mississippi" but with the accent on the last note. We call it "come on and play."

One reason I use sing along favorites is that our group plays in retirement homes where residents are fond of singing as a social outlet.

This arrangement is not for resale. It will be available in a collection of suplementary materials. More information from grandma@grandmaskite.com.

Click here for a midi that makes the melody more prominent for those who are learning it.

This is just the chorus of the song by Harry Dacre, 1892
followed by a parody that was around in the 50s

Daisy, Daisy,
Give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle made for two.

Michael, Michael,
This is my answer true:
You're half crazy,
If you think that will do!
If you can't afford a carriage,
There won't be any marriage,
'Cause I'll be switched if I'll get hitched
On a bicycle made for two.

The song as Dacre wrote it, verses and all, can be found on

Twinkle Rag – a twinkle variation with a new twist on half of the rhythm in Variations A and D. Same four sixteenth notes in a ragtime setting

Daisy Daisy uses a three four twist on "Mississippi without the hot dog." The whole accompaniment is open D and G. The song and bass line can be played as a violin / 'cello duet or on the piano.
